Rediscover Youthful Skin with a PDO Thread Lift

Aging skin isn’t just a concern for later in life — starting in our twenties, we begin to lose collagen at a steady rate of about 1% per year. By our thirties, that number can double, leading to visible changes in skin firmness, texture, and contour. While no one can stop the clock, there are ways to slow it down and even reverse some of its visible effects — and PDO thread lifts have become one of the most effective tools in modern aesthetic medicine to do just that.

Originally developed for use in cardiovascular surgery, PDO (polydioxanone) threads are made from a biocompatible, synthetic material that has been used safely in the medical field for decades. When placed under the skin, these threads dissolve over time — typically within 4 to 6 months — while triggering a natural regenerative response that continues even after the threads are gone. Patients experience a firmer, smoother, more youthful appearance, all without major downtime or permanent foreign materials left behind.

Whether you’re noticing early signs of aging or seeking to refine and lift specific areas of the face or neck, PDO threads provide a customizable, low-risk treatment option that rejuvenates the skin from the inside out.

What is a Thread Lift ?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging skin without surgery. Using specialized medical-grade threads made of biodegradable materials (PDO – Polydioxanone), the treatment provides immediate lifting effects while stimulating the body’s natural collagen production for long-term improvement in skin tone and elasticity.

Unlike traditional facelifts, thread lifts are performed without incisions or general anesthesia, making them a more accessible and low-risk option for those seeking facial rejuvenation and contouring.

How this treatment works

Fine threads are gently inserted beneath the skin using a cannula. These threads anchor the skin and reposition it, creating a lifting effect. Over time, the threads dissolve naturally, leaving behind newly formed collagen and elastin, which continue to support skin structure and firmness.

The treatment is quick, with minimal downtime, and results develop both immediately and progressively over the following weeks.

Is it safe?

Yes. PDO threads are FDA-cleared and widely used in aesthetic medicine. They’ve been safely used in surgical procedures for decades. At Pristine Wellness Center, our team follows the highest standards of care and uses threads approved by the Association of PDO Threads (UK).

The APDOT Standard

Due to the rise of underqualified providers, the Association of PDO Thread (APDOT) was founded in the UK in 2016. It sets strict standards for Practitioner training, Product quality, and safe and effective techniques

Always choose a trained professional. Your results — and safety — depend on it.

Combining Treatments for Better Results

Dr. Izadi often recommends combining treatments for optimal rejuvenation:

  1. Start with PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) Facial
    – Resurfaces the skin’s superficial layer

  2. Follow with PDO or PLACL Thread Lift
    – Restores deeper structure and contour

This dual approach revives the skin on both a surface and structural level.

How long does it take?

A typical PDO thread lift takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated. Most sessions are completed in a single visit, with minimal downtime afterward.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

For most patients, one treatment provides noticeable improvement, with results continuing to improve over the following weeks as collagen production increases. Touch-ups or repeat treatments may be recommended every 12–18 months to maintain results, depending on individual aging and skin quality.

Pricing

The price for the threading procedure varies based on the number and type of needles and the type of thread used. Pricing below is a rough estimate and may be higher in some cases.

At Pristine Wellness Center we use Alfa Aqulift® from South Korea.

There are three types of thread used for this procedure:
  • PDO: Polydioxanone
  • PLLA: poly-L-lactic acid
  • PLACL: Poly-L-Lactide-co-ε-caprolactone
We use PDO and PLACL thread. This is the estimated price for the PDO thread (which is FDA cleared).
PLACL lasts three times longer than PDO and is 3 times more expensive and not FDA cleared yet.

Efficacy study of the new polycaprolactone thread compared with other commercialized threads in a murine model

Neocollagenesis was significantly increased by 50% in the new PCL and pre-existing PCL groups at 8 weeks (p value < 0.001).

Additionally, new-PCL-implanted mice showed a significant increase in collagen type III and TGF-β expressions at 8 weeks (p value < 0.001). The number of inflammatory cells was also increased in the skin of PCL-implanted mice at 8 weeks. Finally, wrinkles were reduced about 20% in the new PCL group at 8 weeks.

There have been biodegradable thread materials such as polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly-L-lactic acids (PLLA) starting with polydioxanone (PDO).The PCL thread has received the most attention recently among them.

PCL is a very flexible and highly elastic substance; thus, it causes less pain and discomfort compared to PDO and PLLA. PCL is biodegradable and decomposed into CO2 and H2O. Its safety is proven from various biodegradable medical devices approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Threads made from PCL are slowly absorbed into the body within 1 ~ 1.5 years compared to PDO (6 ~ 8 months) and PLLA (12 months). For functional improvement of the collagen synthesis and wrinkle improvement, the new PCL thread with less residual monomers and a higher molecular weight has been developed expecting prolonged durability and enhanced efficacy.
