What is Daxxify?
DAXXIFY® is FDA approved to smooth moderate to severe lines between the brows. It is the only long-lasting frown line treatment powered by a peptide with results that last on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some.* The active ingredient in DAXXIFY® is a purified protein called botulinum toxin type A.
Daxxify is a prescription medicine for adults that is injected into muscles to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows ( glabellar lines). It is not known if Daxxify is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age.
Daxxify is the newest neuromodulator used in aesthetic medicine as well as other aspects of medicine.
How Daxxify Works
In general all Botulinum toxins are Acetylcholine release inhibitors and neuromuscular blocking agents.
Daxxify is Daxibotulinum toxin A. It is the only neuromodulator made in the USA and uses the new peptide enhancing technology.
Daxxify is a 150 KDa botulinum toxin without accessory proteins purified from the bacterium clostridium botulinum type A.
Daxxify is formulated with a 35 amino acid peptide excipient that prevents surface adsorption and promotes thermal stability of Daxxify.

All frown line treatments require a special ingredient to stabilize botulinum toxin A, the protein responsible for helping smooth moderate to severe frown lines. For instance, BOTOX® Cosmetic uses human serum albumin (HSA), a blood product, as its stabilizer. Dysport®, another frown line treatment, uses HSA as a stabilizer and cow’s milk protein as a protectant.
DAXXIFY® is unique because it is the only formulation that uses a novel peptide as a stabilizer and does not contain human or animal byproducts.
How long does it take?
The Daxxify injection procedure typically requires less than 30 minutes to administer.
Who should avoid this?
Do not receive Daxxify if you:
- Are allergic to Daxxify or any of the ingredients in Daxxify.
- Had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin products such as rimabotulinum toxin B ( Myobloc) anabotulinum toxin A ( Botox, Botox cosmetics) abobotulinum toxin A ( Dysport) , incobotulinum toxin A ( Xeomin) or parbotulinum toxin A ( Jeuveau).
- Have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

Before Treatment
How should I prepare for my DAXXIFY® treatment?
Ask your aesthetic provider for pre-treatment instructions prior to your DAXXIFY® appointment.
A list of common avoidances before treatment include, but are not limited to:
- Retin-A
- Blood thinners
- Muscle relaxants
- Fish or oils rich in omega 3
- Allergy medication
- Topical steroids
- Sleep medications and supplements
- Aspirin
- St. John’s Wort
- Supplements containing Vitamin E
- Ibuprofen
DAXXIFY® injections are typically performed with a small needle and people treated with frown line treatments say the injection feels like a pinch.
If you are concerned about discomfort, talk to your injector about options for minimizing pain, such as icing the area or applying a topical numbing cream.
After Treatment
Treatment with DAXXIFY® requires minimal downtime, and you can return to your daily routine immediately after your appointment.
There is a possibility that the area around the injection site will swell, turn red, and cause pain or tenderness from the injection itself; however, these side effects are typically very minor and go away after a few hours or days.
Healing and Results
You may see results with DAXXIFY® as early as the next day after treatment, and typically within two days.
If you’re like most people, you probably get a frown line treatment around twice a year. But here’s the thing: conventional treatments only last 3–4 months. If you are not able to get treated every 3-4 months, that means you may spend the next 2-3 months of the year with those frown lines staring back at you between treatments. That’s up to 4-6 months per year without optimal results!
DAXXIFY® is different. With those same 2 treatment visits, you can keep your frown lines smoother for a full year!
Possible Side Effects
- Problem swallowing, speaking or breathing. These problems can happen hours, days or weeks after an injection of Daxxify. If the muscles that you use to breathe and swallow become weak after the injection. People who already have swallowing or breathing problems before receiving Daxxify have the higher risk of getting these problems.
- Spread of toxin effects: In some cases, thee effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas of the body away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including but not limited to:
- Loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body
- Blurred vision and drooping eyelids
- Trouble saying words clearly
- Trouble breathing
- Double vision,reduced blinking, corneal problems, dry eye
- Hoarseness or change or loss of voice
- Loss of bladder control
- Trouble swallowing
- Heart problems, Irregular heartbeat and heart attack that have resulted in death, have happened in some people who received botulinum toxin products.
- Allergic reactions, symptoms of an allergic reaction to Daxxify may include: itching, rash, redness, swelling, trouble breathing, or dizziness or feeling faint.
These symptoms can happen hours, days, or weeks after you receive an injection of Daxxify.
These problems could make it unsafe for you to drive a car or do other dangerous activities.
Although no serious adverse reactions of distant spread of toxin effects associated with Daxxify have been reported in clinical studies of 40 units of glabellar lines, these reactions are possible. Daxxify dosing units are not the same as or comparable to any other botulinum toxin products.
